All about Bodrum

Updated: Jul 16, 2023

Bodrum, located on the southwestern coast of Turkey, is a popular destination for travelers seeking a combination of stunning beaches, rich history, and vibrant nightlife. This section will provide you with comprehensive information on travel tips, must-see sightseeing spots, transportation options, top beaches to visit, and restaurant recommendations in Bodrum.

Whether you're a history enthusiast eager to explore ancient ruins or a sun-seeker looking for the perfect spot to relax by the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea, Bodrum has something for everyone. From its iconic Bodrum Castle and ancient theater to its charming streets lined with whitewashed houses and bustling markets, there are plenty of sights to discover.

Getting around in Bodrum is relatively easy with various transportation options available. You can choose between taxis or rental cars to explore the surrounding areas at your own pace.

From popular stretches like Gumbet Beach and Bitez Beach offering water sports activities and beachfront amenities to more secluded spots like Camel Beach or Akyarlar Beach where you can enjoy tranquility amidst beautiful natural surroundings - there's an option for every preference. To complete your Bodrum experience, we will also recommend some fantastic restaurants that showcase the region's culinary delights.

Transportation

  • Flights - It is fairly simple to get to Bodrum from Istanbul. There are plenty of flights going from the IST airport on the European side of Istanbul as well as the SAW airport on the Anatolian side. The flight from IST to Milas-Bodrum Airport takes less than 2 hours approximately. Going during the tourist season will obviously have price increases for everything, but one caveat of going during the off-seasons is that some tourist attractions may not be accessible due to the cold weather or other factors.

  • Car Rentals - Renting a car in Bodrum from the airport is highly recommended, especially through online companies like international ones. Drivers must have a valid license and be above 21 or 25 years old. Before signing the paperwork, inspect the car with the agent and take photos for documentation. Keep in mind that minor scratches can result in a loss of security deposit. Unfortunately, the local Hertz office at Bodrum Airport was unprofessional and unhelpful which made making the rental process difficult.

Bodrum Castle - Bodrum Castle, also known as the Castle of St. Peter, is a 14th-century architectural marvel with four towers. The castle was transformed into a mosque by the Ottomans in 1523 and later transformed into the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology in 1962. The castle offers a rich history and cultural experience, with tickets included in the Muzekart Pass for residents and citizens. Tourists should bring cash for the entrance fee. The large castle offers stunning views of Bodrum's waters and a rooftop courtyard for exploring.

  • "Tost" is a charming bistro with a rooftop view of Bodrum Marina, offering various sandwiches and sides.

  • "Lizaz" is a beachfront restaurant with Lebanese fusion cuisine, offering waterfront seating and unique dishes.
